Braves Pitcher Charlie Morton Sets Sights on Historic Milestone

Veteran Right-hander Poised to Join Elite Company

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Charlie Morton is on the cusp of achieving a remarkable milestone in his storied career. With a victory in his next start, the 40-year-old hurler will become the oldest pitcher in Major League Baseball history to win 100 games after turning 40.

Morton, who joined the Braves in 2021, has been a key cog in Atlanta's recent success, helping the team win the World Series in 2021. He has consistently been a reliable and effective presence on the mound, posting a 3.49 ERA and 1,626 strikeouts over the past three seasons.

If Morton can secure his 100th win, he will join an exclusive club of pitchers who have achieved the feat at an advanced age. Only six other pitchers have won 100 games after turning 40, with the most recent being Roger Clemens in 2006.

The Braves will face the Philadelphia Phillies in Morton's next scheduled start, providing him with a prime opportunity to make history. The veteran pitcher is not shying away from the pressure, expressing his excitement and determination to reach the milestone. "I'm aware of it," Morton said. "It's a cool thing. It's something that I'll look back on when my career is done and be really proud of."
